Current Green Team 2012

Start 2011

The  Green Team 2012 project is harnessing the growing enthusiasm and understanding of sustainability within WorldSkills Australia. Expert advice on sustainability in design is influencing the very beginning of the WorldSkills competition cycle!

A partnership project between WorldSkills Australia, ARUP & Dusseldorp Skills Forum.

Green Team 2012 started early with the Skills & Sustainability Leadership workshop (June 2011) linking project design teams with sustainability advisors to streamline space and tool requirements and further improve water, energy, material and waste efficiency.

Plans are now in place and work has started on:

  • Integrating sustainability into the working system used by WSA and
  • Developing a communications package around skills & sustainability.

The WorldSkills National competition will be held at Sydney Olympic Park, Aug 30 – 1 September 2012 – come and see the Green Team in action!

The Skills & Sustainability Leadership workshop, held 2 - 4 June, featured some great speakers:

The workshop inspired a remarkable degree of collegiate commitment to further build up the competition’s sustainability, identifying opportunities to:

  • Reduce overall event ecological footprint
  • Communicate WSA sustainability commitment
  • Better measure energy, water and waste
  • Increase the social sustainability of the WSA movement
  • Entrench design innovation in WSA event cycle

It’s still a year before the competition and already half of the 54 skills competition categories have comprehensive sustainability plans in place!
