| Key College :: Community Partnerships |
|
There are also many opportunities to take part in community-based activities as part of the program: some students presented at and participated in the DSF Learning Choices Expo in 2004; in the same year, three students visited East Timor as part of their work in the East Timor Service Learning project.
The school is proud of its community partnerships with Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir Street Theatre, Botanical Gardens, and various employers including McGrath Estate Agents. Many of these agencies were linked through Youth Off the Streets and have developed a productive long-term relationship with the school. The partnerships enable formal academic studies, program activities such as theatre visits, gardening activities, participation in presentations and celebrations, as well as careers advice and work placements.
The Key College Board also represents these community partnerships. The Board meets once a month after school to discuss the school's progress and needs. Both staff and students present reports about activities and learnings. The Board consists of Key College staff, the Youth Off the Streets Education Cluster Manager/Principal, the Development Coordinator of the YOTS school programs, community members of the YOTS Board (who are also associated employers), and former staff members. A Key College student attends to present a report, but leaves before personal progress of individual students is discussed. Occasionally there are other visitors from community groups.
