The island: Furniture making
In the furniture making workshop students are taught to use a variety of hand tools and learn the basics of furniture construction. Correct use of tools and development of useful handskills are a big part of this workshop and safety with tools is a major learning outcome. Students complete projects under the supervision of a cabinet maker/joiner producing outdoor furniture for sale, commissioned dining tables and dining chairs and bookshelf units. An Island student can obtain a VCAL qualification from this workshop and a Certificate II in Furniture Production.
