“We are the drop outs” - they have been rejected and missed out. Some of them have done horrible things but that shouldn’t affect the rest of their lives – they just end up the shitheads at school because there is nothing there for them. The girls are dropping out even earlier and industry is crying out for them – no one gives a stuff about them so long as they don’t come near them. (Staff) |
The purpose of this short research report is to document the main features of The Island, profiling the students and staff, describing and analysing the school programs and its underlying educational philosophies; and highlighting the pedagogical relationships that facilitate and promote enhanced student engagement. |
