FAQ
Student-teachers
I’ve got an idea for a project on my own, and also
a project idea with a friend. Do I have to log in separately on the website for
each?
Yes, you
can propose a project in either teams of two, or individually. If you are submitting
your team idea, you must be logged in as the team, if you are submitting your
own individual idea, you must log in with your own (single) ID.
I’m interested in a program at Broken Hill, what about
getting there and accommodation?
You may need to cover your travel costs, however many programs
located in regional areas have indicated that they can help you with accommodation – often
through being billeted with a local person or family. What better way to see
a bit of the countryside and really get to know the people in that community.
I’m a student-teacher and I’ve emailed my Expression of Interest
to 5 programs but have not been accepted by any of them…I want to pass
my PE3 so what should I do?
You can email 5 Expression of Interest forms to programs
per calendar week so you might like to log back on and email another five once
the week is up. Also remember that >>Next Generation is just one example
of what you can do to complete your PE3. Visit the Professional Experience 3
office at the University for other ideas.
I’ve got an idea for a project but I’m not sure if the materials
and equipment we need for it will be too expensive. Make it clear in your Expression
of Interest form that you are aware the materials and equipment may be costly.
Have a think about what alternatives there are or who/where you might be able
to source them cheaply or even for free. When you meet with a program that is
interested you will have the opportunity to negotiate with them about the project.
Some programs have indicated they may have a small amount of money available
while others are on tighter budgets. This all needs to be discussed with the
Program coordinator.
Will I receive any formal recognition for having taken part in Next Generation?
Yes, in recognition of successfully completing your project, you will receive
a Certificate of Achievement from the University. Once you have submitted your ‘Reflections’ via
the website, you can collect your certificate from the UWS School of Education
on the Assignment Collection Day.
Programs
Do the student-teachers understand the needs of the young people in this program
e.g. literacy levels, behaviour, their backgrounds and experiences they’ve
had with teachers?
The student-teachers will be well informed about the types of programs and students
participating in the programs, however they may not have experienced students
like this before. When discussing the Project Plan with the student-teacher the
suitability of the project design and lesson-plans can be discussed and agreed
upon. You know how your individual students work best and it’s important
you communicate that to the student-teacher/s.
I haven’t received any Expressions of Interest that would fit in
with our program – can I see what some of the other student-teachers are
proposing?
Yes, you can log onto the NOTICEBOARD to browse all the student-teacher’s
project ideas and contact them directly if you are interested.
Do I have to be there when the student-teacher is conducting their project.
You know your students best so it is up to you to make that judgment. We expect
that you will be at least close by in case there are any problems and to provide
the student-teachers with adequate support.
What if there’s a problem with the student-teacher?
In the unlikely event that there is a problem with your student–teacher
we expect you will try and resolve it as you would with any other member of staff.
If things are still not working out you should contact the PE3 office at UWS on 02 9852 5069.
