Roles & Responsibilities for participants in the >>Next Generation project

The ‘Learning Choices’ Program Coordinator who engages a student-teacher to conduct a project
Will read the project proposal thoroughly and negotiate anything that is unacceptable or they think might not work with their student group
In particular, will negotiate and agree on the materials and equipment, and budget for the project.
Will nominate one person (teacher/manager/coordinator) that the student-teacher will liaise with and be responsible to
Will ensure the student-teachers are treated with respect as any other staff member
Will ensure the student-teachers are supported and encouraged throughout their project
Will provide ongoing feedback to the student-teacher to ensure the project is completed successfully
Will provide assistance to the student-teacher when required
Will ensure the student-teacher/s are operating in an appropriate work environment recognising that they are teachers in training.
Will ensure the student-teachers are notified in advance if there is a change to the agreed time/date to undertake the project
Will complete a Student Report once the student-teacher has completed the project and mail it to the Professional Experience Office at the University
Will contact the UWS Professional Experience Office on 02 4736 0068 directly and immediately if there are concerns about the student-teacher’s performance


The UWS Student-Teacher
Will negotiate the materials and equipment and all costs with the program coordinator, PRIOR to the program incurring those costs
It is an expectation that the program will pay for any resources required for the project, however, this must be negotiated.
Will act in a professional manner and follow the guidelines as on any other practical or professional experience
Will treat all students with sensitivity and respect and recognise that this is not a regular, mainstream school
Will notify the UWS Professional Experience office on 02 4736 0068 immediately if a problem arises during their project
Will notify the program as soon as practicable if they are unable to attend any scheduled lessons


University of Western Sydney (UWS)
Is the FIRST POINT OF CONTACT for programs and student-teachers if any difficulties arise.
Please contact the Professional Experience Office on 02 4736 0068 or Dr Susanne Gannon in the School of Education on (02) 4736 0292
Will ensure every student-teacher has had their child-protection check completed prior to application
Will ensure the enrolled student-teacher is indemnified through their student fees while completing their project
Will negotiate any difficulties that may arise from the student-teacher placement with a program
Will be responsible for collecting evaluations as required by UWS
