The
City Of Wyndham Youth Bus service grew out of the local
community safety plan. The youth bus provides free transport
to people 12-18 years old on Friday and Saturday nights
from 9pm to 1.30am. One of Council’s 19-seater community
buses is used and manned by a team of volunteer drivers,
supported by a paid security officer. The bus follows a
set pick-up route and runs 4 circuits of the built-up area
of the municipality each night. Passengers are offered a
lift to the street intersection closest to their home, but
the majority alight at other pick-up points. Thought originally
intended as a "take home" service, it does not
appear to be used by the majority of passengers as such.
Issues around unruly / undesirable passenger behaviour are
continually being monitored and addressed.
